Dream Carriers (short film, 2022)

Framed through the migration of monarch butterflies, a college-bound Chicana reflects on the generations of women before her.
This film is based on my feelings towards this idea of entering an ‘unreachable’ world of success as a Chicana first-generation college student from the inner-city. Dream Carriers is a personal love letter to my city and my family. It challenges the whiteness of the American Dream and portrays it as it is – a unique and relative realization of a journey. This is for my love of barbacoa and Big Red on Sundays, paleteros and hood-rat snacks, getting lost in the sounds of Spanglish and the drive home down Nogalitos. Lastly, it’s for the countless times my mom has pushed me to do something I love, and my dad telling me not to forget where I come from because I carry that with me wherever I go.
